Hotels

There are many fine hotels in Bridport just a short distance from the legendary Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, and the seaside attractions of West Bay and Lyme Regis and thereby providing the perfect base for those visiting the area.

The Bull Hotel - 34 East Street

Formerly a 17th century coaching inn, this magnificent Grade II listed building has since been lovingly refurbished and restored by its current owners Richard and Nikki Cooper. Now a friendly and informal boutique hotel, the Bull boasts sixteen individual and unique rooms, ranging from a very small single to a huge family suite. All are warm and inviting with a vintage-chic decorative theme. The stripped wooden floors and carefully selected antiques combine well with the bold-print fabrics and wallpapers by Zoffany and the Designers Guild. Some of the rooms have four poster beds as well as vintage roll-top tubs, however, all of them feature deluxe king-size beds, flat-screen TVs, white black-out blinds, fine Egyptian cotton linen, robes and hospitality tray. All toiletries in the luxury en suite bathrooms are by Neal’s Yard. In the kitchen Head Chef Marc Montgommery formerly of Marco Pierre White’s Talkhouse, bakes all of the bread, cakes and scones in-house as well as devising a daily menu of relaxed, rustic dishes. Every occasion can be catered for whether it be just morning coffee and cakes, an informal market-day brunch or a swish celebratory meal. Canapés are served in the Venner Bar on Friday nights and the delightful courtyard garden, which was once the original stable yard, is decorated with bunting and fairy lights, making it the perfect setting for a light summer lunch or evening cocktail.

The George Hotel - 18 George Street

Overlooking the harbour at West Bay the George Hotel is located just over a mile away from the town centre. In December 2007 the hotel underwent a major refurbishment and restoration programme in which all rooms were modernised to a very high standard. Many of the rooms offer wonderful sea views or views of the River Brit which flows into the harbour. All have ensuite facilities and provide a high standard of comfort with tea & coffee making options and colour television. Both of the bars as well as the restaurant have undergone a complete transformation with something to offer all its guests whether it be a game of pool, a pint of the finest locally produced ale or dinner from a vast and varied menu which includes many local fish specialties as well as delicious and succulent Scotch steaks. The bars are open all day with ample free parking for hotel residents. The George Hotel is the perfect venue for all special occasions such as private parties, birthday or anniversary celebrations and can offer special function packages which can include buffets, set menus as well as à la carte.

Eype’s Mouth Country Hotel - Eype

Situated in the small, tranquil village of Eype, this family run country hotel with its superb sea views is just a few minutes walk from the beach. All of the eighteen bedrooms are individual both in size and design, with the larger Superior rooms, some with four posters, either south facing with sea views or on the east elevation with  glimpses of the sea and overlooking the downland up toward Thorncombe Beacon. The slightly smaller Standard rooms are located on the North and West Elevations of the hotel, overlooking the surrounding countryside and National Trust downland. All have either bath or shower ensuite facilities and are equipped with Digital TV, radio/alarm clock radio, hairdryer, tea and coffee options, a hospitality tray and direct dial telephone. The hotel’s restaurant, overlooking Lyme Bay, offers a three course table d’hôte menu with much to choose from with each course. Changed daily, the menu takes advantage of local produce whenever possible with locally caught fish, splendid meats and fruit and vegetables produced just north of Bridport. The Admirals Bar is located on the ground floor and open all day for residents and offers the perfect setting for pre-dinner drinks, relaxing with an aperitif and perusing the menu. The Smugglers Bar is an olde worlde cellar bar which is only open during the summer months and ideal for those who are visiting the area. A bar food menu is served from 12 noon until 2pm and 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
